Natural Orifice Surgery

Surgery through natural orifices refer to surgical access through already existing orifices in the human body, such as the vagina, navel, oral cavity, or even through organs such as the stomach, through which  surgery can be perform, avoiding external incisions.

Natural orifices Surgeries represent a new concept that will make a revolution in intra-abdominal surgeries. Obviously, the greatest goals of this type of surgical access are preventing trauma, promoting a faster recovery for the patients, minimizing the post-surgical pain and decreasing hospital costs.

The vagina is a natural orifice, and ovarian cysts, pedicled myoma and even the appendix can be removed through it. Ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy in the fallopian tubes) is an urgent surgery that can be performed through the vagina, enabling a quick recovery for the patient, preventing any type of abdominal incision.

Surgeries through natural orifices are a frontier in medicine. In addition to using the vagina as a natural orifice for female pelvic surgeries, surgeries such as trans-gastric colecistectomies (removing the biliary vesicle), trans-axilar thyroidectomy etc, are being currently performed.
